A year on he knows that the stories didn't prepare him for the half of it.

This is not an easy place to work, the other secretaries tell her. They refer to themselves as "girls," — they are never more than that.

Darling, the men call her, and love, and occasionally sweetheart. They leave tea trays on her desk, cigarette butts floating in the curdled dregs. She is privy to the most extraordinary secrets, spoken in elevators while she stands demure and invisible in the corner.

Oh, God, I &hearts this story SO MUCH, I can't tell you - I mean, I'm always loath to say "this is my favourite such-and-such", but if it isn't my very favourite story in the fandom so far, it's easily in my top three. And I'm saying that as someone who really didn't much care for Gatiss's iteration of Mycroft Holmes - I'm afraid he's one of those actors who are too inextricably linked with previous, over-the-top pastichey kind of performances (wai halo there, League of Gentlemen), with the result that I never ever see them as the character, just the actor. So, you know - Mycroft was probably my least favourite character on the show.

But this story? Rocked my fucking socks. Dear heavens. Just GORGEOUS, and layered, and incisive, and troubling, and unexpectedly touching. Love. It.

All stories listed have a short excerpt or summary, but no warnings for content or pairing, as the stories themselves have headers, and the copying of headers for every story would make the list (more) unwieldy. The list itself contains everything from gen to kink, canon to AU, speculative future fic to prequel fic. A bit of everything, really. The only predominant theme is slash. There's no graphic or predominant het or femmeslash, though there is mention of background canon pairings.
