I realise this is only tangentially related, so if it gets deleted, I'll understand entirely, but my mind went immediately to BBC Sherlock when I read about this custom-built bone-crushing machine used to gather data about how bones split, sheer, crack and break under different impacts. It is used to develop body armour, but I can see an immediate forensics use as well. Like the Texas University Body Farm[1] it's one of those things it's nice to imagine Sherlock gleeing over.

TITLE: The Case of the Unwelcome Owl
AUTHOR: FayJay
FANDOM: Sherlock/Harry Potter crossover
GENRE: Gen
RATING: PG
WORDCOUNT: 7,600
SUMMARY: There was a medium-sized barn owl in the living room, perching on the back of the sofa. John stared at it blankly for a moment, and it stared blankly back, then corkscrewed its head around to stare at Sherlock. It didn't seem to be showing any immediate signs of being a ninja owl assassin working for an evil genius; on the other hand, John hadn't the faintest idea what on earth had led it to come and sit on furniture in the middle of 221B Baker Street.
