Writer/Artist/Vidder/Iconographer/Knitter of Orange Blankets: These days, pretty much vidder, with the occasional meta and consistent fannish love
Country: USA
Occupation: academic
What else are you into? (fannish):These days--Supernatural, Mad Men, Damages, Gossip Girl, Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart. And I normally wouldn’t mention this, but somehow I feel it’s very relevant: Amelia Peabody. I think much of my original Sherlock Holmes love was channeled into my love of Elizabeth Peter’s Amelia Peabody. And I can’t help but feel that Benedict Cumberbatch would be the ideal Ramses. Or Emerson. Or both.
What else are you into? (in the real world):I’m a mother of a 3 yo, I’m a bit of a foodie, I love going to the farmer’s market and then cooking something fresh and delicious. Afterward. And thinking about fannish things all the while…
One awesome thing you did this year:Moved across the country to a wonderful new home, town, & job!!
I am a Watsonian/ I am a Doylesian/ I have no idea what you're talking about:I’m at a bit of a loss here as to this distinction, but I’d venture to say I’m a Doylesian.

Favorite Character: Sherlock. I know, not terribly original, but he’s Sherlock!
Favorite Character Who is Neither Sherlock nor John:Hmm, I’ll go with Lestrade. I love how the series has reimagined him as a character.
Favorite Pairing: I suppose I’m in the Sherlock/John camp, but I’m quite open minded along these lines. I have to admit to being quite fascinated with Sherlock and Lestrade as well.
Favorite Scene:Oh, this is a tough one. I think that moment in the cab, in A Study in Pink, when Sherlock admits to John that most people tell him to piss off after he performs his deduction. They’re both so human in that moment—I feel like it’s the true start of their friendship, where they begin to let their facades down.
Riding Crop or Service Revolver: Oh seriously, I have to choose? (And I know I have no right to complain here, as I’m a co-co-mod…) But no, I can’t choose and I won’t choose. They need each other. RidingCrop/ServiceRevolver OTP!
The Beeb's Modern AU - well-done or half-baked?:I’m completely in love with this modern adaptation. I sat down to the series knowing nothing about it other than that I’ve always loved Sherlock Holmes. I was so thrown and thrilled by the fact that it was a Modern AU. The moment of realizing what they’d done with it was like slow motion fireworks going off in my head. This adaptation—with its Sherlock with a website and John with a blog and texting and knowledge in the cloud was absolutely made for me.
Original Story I'd most like to see adapted:I’m going to have to say The Red Headed League, though I have no idea what that would look like modernized. But it’s fascinating to think of the possibilities!! Also The Copper Beeches—I think it would be quite fascinating to think of what social isolation looks like in a modern landscape, and the gender issues could really go in interesting directions.

Other Adaptations I Enjoy: Well, Jeremy Brett was a fixture in my young adulthood—he was Holmes to me, and perhaps still is, but Cumberbatch is definitely Sherlock, and Sherlock takes precedence.

But I’m going to possibly lose all gravitas and say Young Sherlock Holmes. Young Sherlock was so very pretty, and oh John and the Donuts! But that said, one of the things I love most about Sherlock (the BBC version) is that Watson is not simply just used/poked fun at as a sidekick, but that rather the series takes on and even challenges the whole idea of a sidekick. I find that very compelling.
