Summary: The woman had a lovely, heart-shaped face, large grey eyes, dark brown hair that would be auburn in bright sunlight. Her cape was dark olive, and sodden from the shoulders down. She removed her hat and, looking at Harriet, said, "Is this seat taken?"

For her part, Harriet stared dumbly at the apparition of beauty before nodding. "Of course, I'm so sorry. Please, join me."

Author's Note: A Dark Lamp is all of the background that didn't fit into the main timeline. You can of course ignore it and stick with the main timeline only, but I think A Dark Lamp really rounds out the story. I am, of course, biased in this regard...

The Shadows, Where Softly Steps the Light:

In 1859, Sherlock Holmes is sent to America to deal with James Moriarty, who is trying to gather support in the form of guns and money for the Irish rebellion. While in Boston, Sherlock meets one John Watson, who has moved to America not only to escape the memory of his late wife, but to recover from the injuries he sustained in India.

In an atmosphere brimming with politics and the threat of war, can Sherlock and John become a force unstoppable only by the most crafty of men?
