kickair8p: Microscopic Utah Teapot (Tiny Utah Teapot)
[personal profile] kickair8p posting in [community profile] sherlockbbc
Anybody who is (or wants to be) making 3D art and who's a Sherlock fan might be interested in this: Antheia for V4 looks remarkably like Lisa McAllister aka Anthea! Haven't spotted look-a-likes of any other of our faves, but I'll keep an eye out. For anybody wondering, there's a linklist of 3D celeb look-a-likes on the DAZ forum (free registration required, sorry).

Bit of 3D how-to background: Although there are programs out there (including free ones) for creating 3D stuff from scratch, there's a whole small industry around pre-made figures and props for use in 3D "studio" programs, designed for arranging and rendering pre-made 3D products. The best-known of these is Poser and it costs two hundred and fifty bucks american, but DAZ|Studio is free. DAZ has also recently made its premiere line of human figures, the Millennium 4 series, free; this is relevant because the "V4" in Antheia for V4 is DAZ's Victoria 4.

For examples of what the average user can do with this see my deviantArt gallery, all my own 3D renders. Although the learning curve can be a bit steep in spots (content organization being the worst one IMHO), in a few hours you could be well on your way to making some snazzy pics. If you're into photo-maniping, these can be used to make original bases. And if you need a hand there's a forum full of artists happy to give helpful info and advice.
