I had to fiddle with some canon details (of both shows) to make this crossover fit. It's set between The Boom Town and Bad Wolf for Doctor Who, and after The Blind Banker for Sherlock.

Summary: In the three years since the mysterious Moriarty's death in the poolside explosion, John Watson has married, become a father, and become a widower, all the while still mourning the loss of his friend and flatmate Sherlock Holmes. When Sherlock, very much not dead and very much in trouble, finally finds his way home again, John is forced to decide which he will protect first: his new family, or his old love—or perhaps he can choose both.

Author's Notes: Saw a prompt at sherlockbbc_fic that asked for (really abridged version of the prompt due to spoilers) Sherlock's supposed death in TGG leading to John's marriage. That was the spark for this idea, but then it grew into a forest fire that my muse has apparently been feeding gasoline and crude oil. Title taken from the lyrics of "Right Here Waiting For You," which just happens to be the song John chooses to dance to at his wedding.
Chapter Notes: I see that some of you hard-core angst-seekers are holding out for a bit more, well, angst. Not to worry, I'm making sure you'll have plenty of that in the last two chapters, so bear with me while I give you an extra dose of PLOT in the meantime! xD
