Completely belatedly responding, and obviously we're already friended/on readinglist/whatever you call it here on DW, but I just had to echo this:
The clothes alone make me fangasm.
Seriously, so true, and who knew? I mean, I went in knowing I'd likely love a remake of Sherlock Holmes no matter what, and the modern day AU thing is just such a beautiful, perfect idea. But then you dress it all up in those beautiful clothes? That coat? Sherlock's suits and plum shirt? The pretty is overwhelming.
And yes, I feel like in some ways Watson is the biggest departure, and it works so well--he feels like such a full character in his own right, and our anchor in the series. Brilliant casting, brilliant performance.
