Author: [personal profile] fennishjournal
Reader: [personal profile] fennishjournal
Rating: PG-13
Fandom: Sherlock (BBC)
Pairing: Sherlock/John/Lestrade
Disclaimer: Arthur Conan Doyle invented them, Gatiss and Moffat created the AU we all fangirl and that this story is based on.

Summary: “Do you think,” John asks, “he might have drugged himself again?”
It's a valid question. They haven't been attacked with psychoactive mist or the like in a while but Sherlock is perfectly capable of accidentally creating and ingesting his own mood-altering chemicals.

Warning (highlight to read f. spoilery warnings):Reference to canon-typical violence. Also, gross sappiness!

Beta: A wonderfully patient [ profile] drinkingcocoa found ALL my comma mistakes and was a star. Thank you so much!
All remaining mistakes are my own.

A/N: This is a birthday present for [ profile] lostgirlslair, who is so lovely that she deserves both a story based on our speculation that “Would you make me some risotto, baby?” might be Sherlock's favourite recipe, and my very first podfic attempt!

The silver-voiced Orpheus, who only started podficcing recently but is already getting some well-deserved rave reviews, has done one of my fics, to my great pleasure. She’s not much on LJ herself so I’m posting it here:

Title: Walk Forwards PODFIC
Author: [personal profile] pennypaperbrain
Fandom: Sherlock BBC
Rating: PG
Warnings: major character suicide
Pairing/characters: implied unconsummated Sherlock/John
Duration: 9:08
Spoilers: All six episodes, to be safe
Fic summary: Fill for a post-Reichenbach kinkmeme prompt: 'John jumps off the roof of Bart’s. Now Mycroft must tell Sherlock'. You get what it says on the tin. Not cheerful at all. ‘As wonderful as it is awful’ according to one reader on the meme, though.

Notes: SUPER MAJOR thanks to [personal profile] revolutionaryjo for her involvement in creating this podfic. She was totally game for driving me around while I recorded a podfic in the back of her car! The hardest thing about doing it (er, besides the set-up and reading in the dark) was not giggling while reading the story. (More Reader's Notes at my journal: You recorded that WHERE?!)

TITLE: The Death and Resurrection of the English Language
AUTHOR: Wordstrings
FANDOM: Sherlock
PAIRING: Sherlock/John
DURATION: 1 hour 40 mins or so
SUMMARY: Sherlock Holmes has recently grown aware that the problem must be one of language.

He and John Watson clearly speak different versions of English. Must do. It's the only logical explanation.

When Sherlock explores this hypothesis in retrospect, it becomes still more clear to him that a linguistic barrier must be the answer. He will test it just as soon as he can come up with an effective rubric. It accounts for so very many instances when the Doctor went shocked and blinking, cutting his sentences into little one-word clips, when what Sherlock had been saying was undoubtedly normal by anyone's standards...

Follows An Act of Charity and The Paradox Suite, although you don't have to have read them to make sense of this story.

TITLE: Sonata Form
AUTHOR: cj_ludd18
FANDOM: Sherlock
SUMMARY: A fascinating glimpse of the lives of Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes from the time Sherlock is ten to the time he's thirty.

Oh, God, I &hearts this story SO MUCH, I can't tell you - I mean, I'm always loath to say "this is my favourite such-and-such", but if it isn't my very favourite story in the fandom so far, it's easily in my top three. And I'm saying that as someone who really didn't much care for Gatiss's iteration of Mycroft Holmes - I'm afraid he's one of those actors who are too inextricably linked with previous, over-the-top pastichey kind of performances (wai halo there, League of Gentlemen), with the result that I never ever see them as the character, just the actor. So, you know - Mycroft was probably my least favourite character on the show.

But this story? Rocked my fucking socks. Dear heavens. Just GORGEOUS, and layered, and incisive, and troubling, and unexpectedly touching. Love. It.

TITLE: Let you kiss me (So sweet and so soft)
AUTHOR: Out_there
FANDOM: Sherlock (quelle surprise, eh?)
PAIRING: Sherlock/John
DURATION: Just over an hour
SUMMARY: The first time Sherlock kisses him, John keeps his eyes open, and so does Sherlock, and mostly, he wonders what Sherlock could possibly be up to. There'll be some logic to this. Some ridiculous experiment about body warmth or respiratory rates or testing a new way of picking pockets. Sherlock does the unimaginable for bizarre reasons, but behind it, there's always logic and curiosity. Sometimes, it just takes him a while to explain it to John.
